What is Nuclear Engineering
Nuclear Engineers deal with all systems which utilise nuclear energy. Nuclear Engineering combines the practical applications of Engineering with nuclear physics in order to develop safe and reliable power systems and methods to implement nuclear power.
Nuclear Engineers can be involved in power plant design, weapons development, reactor design and radiation research are some of the tasks that Nuclear Engineers are involved with. The theoretical side of this discipline involves extensive lab work, where Nuclear Engineers often work with nuclear physicists. Nuclear Engineering students must have a strong knowledge base in both chemistry and physics to become accredited as Nuclear Engineers.
A large portion of Nuclear Engineers end up working for large power companies and may be stationed on-site to supervise the daily operation, maintenance and improvement of power plants. Other popular fields for Nuclear Engineers include medicine and radiation as well as the military.
