What is Ceramic Engineering
Ceramic Engineering is a specialised field that is within the larger discipline of Materials Engineering and is concerned with the development of ceramic materials. Ceramics are traditionally made from clay (a naturally occurring substance) and often used in pottery and brickwork. Ceramics Engineering also deals with ceramics made from inorganic (lifeless), manmade substances.
More modern ceramics and composites are used in advanced applications such as the design of rockets and high performance vehicles due to their excellent thermal properties. Industries a Ceramic Engineer can work in includes aerospace, mining, medicine and developing components for electrical circuits.
Ceramics Engineers perform similar tasks to Materials Engineers, with the main difference is that Ceramics Engineers specialise entirely in ceramics and its applications.
