What is Wind Engineering
Wind Engineering is used many fields such as Structural, Mechanical and Energy Engineering. In Structural Engineering the focus is on strong winds, tornados and storms that can cause damage to buildings and structures. In the energy field, low and moderate winds are studied for the purpose of power generation using wind turbines or other methods.
Essentially, Wind Engineering looks at the interaction between the wind and everything on earth that has been engineered. Wind Engineers commonly design wind farms and turbines that can capture the power of the wind for good use. They also play a role in evaluating the design of high rise buildings, bridges and other structures where the wind can affect their structural integrity (and even to ensure that the structure is flexible enough to move slightly with the wind!).
