What is Mechatronics Engineering
Mechatronics Engineering is a combination of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (or Computer Science) with an added focus on computing. It is all about the development of automated systems and processes that are used to design or improve existing products. Mechatronics Engineers are knowledgeable in all forms of data communications and analysis.
They use their expertise in Mechanical / Electrical equipment to design remote door locking systems, ABS (anti-skid braking) and robots. Graduates are educated in programming languages and are able to utilize many different software programs. Some countries require an Electrical or Mechanical engineering bachelor’s degree before Mechatronics can be studied at the post graduate level.
This discipline is well suited to those with a passion for robotics. The main industries that employ Mechatronics Engineers include automotive, aerospace, medical, computers and defence. Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of Mechatronics, Engineers can also work in the Mechanical or Electrical Engineering fields.
