Dynamics, machines and processes.
Aeronautical engineering is a discipline that specifically focuses on aircraft that travel within the earth’s atmosphere. Traditionally, aeronautical engineers work only within the aviation industry, however many aeronautical and aerospace engineers are often used interchangeably in the industry. Airplanes and helicopters are the main vehicles focused on in this discipline.
Aeronautical engineers are experts in air foil design and spend a large portion of their education studying the structure and design of aircrafts. Wind tunnels are the weapon of choice for aeronautical engineers, who dedicate many hours to aerodynamic testing. This form of testing allows them to optimise the shape and surfaces of an aircraft, reducing drag and increasing fuel economy. Aviation companies such as Boeing are the main source of employment for aeronautical engineers.
